Peking was released in 1994 as Ty’s first panda Beanie Baby. With black arms, legs, and ears contrasted by a white body and face, Peking’s design was a classic nod to the real-life panda. He was later replaced by a similar Beanie, “Fortune.” Collectors seek out Peking with 1st or 2nd generation swing tags, as these are the earliest and most valuable. His timeless look made him a mainstay in many early collections.
